Written by a teenager for other teenagers, Erica Brahan is able write on a personal level about the challenges that come with health related food restrictions as a teen. After longing for a community to support and offer advice to her for nearly two years, she decided to write “A Teenager’s Perspective on Food Restrictions: A Practical Guide to Keep from Going Crazy”. 

Broken into several short chapters, Erica offers practical advice on how to maintain a social life, go to school, and stay motivated while being consistent with your diet. She shares why diet restrictions are particularly hard for teenagers but how to still overcome these challenges through self-motivation, perseverance, and a good attitude. Additionally, the book includes hers and two other teenagers’ stories of their journey towards wellness. Erica also shares two original recipes for Coconut StrApple Bars and Dairy-Free Banana Mango Ice Cream.

About the Author:

Teenager Erica Brahan struggled with chronic illness for many years before making drastic diet changes at 15 years old. Through the process of regaining her health, the hardest challenge for her to overcome was learning how to mentally cope with food restrictions. She now advocates for teen health, the importance of eating real food, and the need for a community of support for teens with health related food restrictions.
