I was helping my daughter to do some natural dyeing for her Textiles GCSE and there was leftover onion skin dye. I had a skein of undyed yarn in my stash, so I decided to experiment with the dye, it seemed a pity to waste it.

I really loved the yarn when it was dyed and wanted to design some easy but with a nice texture. While knitting this hat I tried really hard to think of a new name but in my head, it was always the Onion Hat. It might not sound like a very glamourous name for a hat, but as Shrek says, an onion has layers. Onions add great flavour to food and make such pretty yarn, so the name has stuck. I hope you love your ONION hat 😁
