Free Hourly Rate Calculator for Freelancers (Excel & Google Sheets)

Free hourly rate calculator: see what you actually keep per hour after unbilled time, expenses and tax, and what to charge instead. Excel & Google Sheets, instant download. It works in Excel and Google Sheets.

In the included example, a rate that looks like $66.67/hr on paper works out to about $30.68/hr once unbilled time, expenses and tax are counted.

What it does

• Finds your true hourly rate. Enter your income, hours billed, and the unbilled hours you spend on admin, sales and marketing, revisions, and other work. The calculator spreads your take-home across every hour you actually worked.
• Accounts for expenses and tax. Add software, platform and payment fees, and other costs, plus the % you set aside for tax. You'll see profit, tax set-aside, and take-home.
• Tells you what to charge. Type the true hourly rate you want, and it works out the rate to charge per billed hour to get there, plus how much more that is than you charge now.
• Lets you test what-ifs. Change one number, like fewer revision hours or lower fees, and every result updates.

What's included
