This Afternoon Crochet Market Bag pattern is named for how quick and simple it is to work up. Using a very simple pattern repeat, this crochet bag pattern works up in an afternoon (or two!).

The crochet market bag has a mesh structure for the body of the bag and a closed bottom to make sure that none of your items fall out but to give you a little stretch for more farmers market vegetables, more yarn or oddly shaped items.

This is a fun advanced beginner crochet bag that is still great for more advanced crocheters who want a fun crochet pattern that takes minimal brain power.

SKILL LEVEL

Advanced Beginner - Crocheters looking to follow this pattern should know how to:

• Read a crochet pattern - There is NOT a video tutorial for this crochet pattern
• Work the basic stitches: Chain, slip stitch, single crochet and half double crochet
• Work in Closed Rounds
• Create chain spaces and work into them
• Skip stitches

This is NOT a beginner pattern! If you're only just learning to crochet, this crochet pattern will be outside of your skill level.

There are two options for the handle - One is "easier" and one is more advanced, but seamless. Your comfort level will determine which handle you prefer to make. There is a link to a video tutorial for another one of my bags that uses the advanced handle option, to help walk you through. 

PATTERN INCLUDES

1. A PDF that includes a photo tutorial for the more "advanced" areas of the bag, specifically Rounds 10 and 11. The instructions with the photo tutorial are written in full sentence detail, not short hand, to help you through. 
2. Printer friendly PDF with no photo tutorials to save ink.

SIZE

Body Length: Approximately 13 inches

Body Width: Approximately 11 inches

Handle Length (from body of bag to top of shoulder): Approximately 13.5 inches

Handle Length (measuring entire handle as if it were flat): Approximately 32 inches.

YARN REQUIRED

Medium (4) weight yarn of your choice. A cotton blend yarn like Caron Cotton Cake works very well with this project.

You will need approximately 5 oz/ 141g/ 400 yards

Yarn Used:  Caron Cotton Cake in Fruit Tropics (colorful bag) and Caron Ripple Cake (discontinued) for the white bag.

If you alter the pattern in any way, your yarn usage will be different than listed.

TOOLS 

• 5 mm (H-8) hook 
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Stitch Markers (at least one to mark your place in the spiral rounds)
