This piece was written for Northstar Duo’s Images of the Microcosm Project.
The title is inspired by William Daly’s translation of poem VIII from Libro de Las Preguntas (originally published in 1974; translated as Book of Questions in 2001) by Pablo Neruda.
O serán rios invisibles
que corren hacia la tristeza?
Occasionally, there will appear an optional voice part for either the flute (VxFl), the sax (VxAS), or both. This part is meant to be sung through the instrument on the syllable “doot” which is the same articulation as the instrument part. Catch breaths as catch can, after any or all staccato notes.
