Munich's Olympic Park was created for the 1972 Olympic Games. This magnificent hilly area was made by dumping and regrouping the ruins of the city after the World War II. It is dominated by a 290m high radio and television tower, the Olympia Turm. The park and its buildings are renowned for representing the boldness of post-war architecture, the intellectual freedom and cheerful open-mindedness of West Germany. 

Urbirun’s route will take you first to the northern part of the park, the Olympic Village, which covers 80 hectares and can accommodate 12,000 people. Now a residential area, it was also the scene of the dramatic hostage-taking by terrorists during the 1972 Olympic Games. 

Of course, you can admire the famous stadium (70,000 seats) with its roof made of stretched glass (which was also the stadium of Bayern Münich until 2005), before walking up the hill to its summit to enjoy the overall view. Then, just before returning to your starting point, you can admire the ultra-modern architecture of BMW Welt, an exhibition center built on the historic site of the famous car manufacturer.

Le Parc Olympique de Munich a été aménagé en 1972 à l’occasion des Jeux Olympiques. Ce magnifique espace vallonné a été constitué par le déversement et le regroupement des ruines de la ville après la guerre. Il est dominé par une tour de radio-télévision de 290m, la Olympia Turm. Le parc et ses bâtiments sont reconnus pour représenter l’audace de l’architecture d’après-guerre, la liberté intellectuelle et la joyeuse ouverture d’esprit de l’Allemagne de l’Ouest. 

Le parcours vous emmènera d’abord dans la partie nord, le village olympique, qui s’étend sur 80 hectares et peut accueillir 12’000 personnes. C’est maintenant un quartier résidentiel, mais il fut aussi le théâtre de la dramatique prise d’otage par des terroristes pendant les Jeux Olympiques. 

Évidemment vous pourrez admirer le fameux stade (70’000 places) à la couverture faite de toiles de verres tendues (qui fut aussi le stade du Bayern de Münich jusqu’en 2005), avant d’arpenter la colline jusqu’à son sommet pour profiter du paysage global. Puis juste avant de rejoindre votre point de départ, vous pourrez admirer l’architecture ultramoderne du BMW Welt, un centre d’exposition érigé sur le centre historique de la fameuse marque automobile.
