The ancient Greeks were among the great builders of their time. The stately columns they designed to hold up walls and graceful archways came in three basic styles: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. The Doric columns were the stockiest, simplest of the columns, Corinthian the most slender and decorative, while Ionic was somewhere in between. The stitch pattern for this sweater reminds me of the tall, elegant Corinthian columns.

Sweater is knit in pieces from the hem up from a provisional cast on, button bands are knit along with the fronts. A variation of the pattern stitch is worked along hems, buttons bands, and neckline instead of ribbing. After the pieces are knit and seamed, live stitches are picked up from the cast on edges, then worked into a simple I-cord border that sweeps around the bottom edges, and around the neckline.

Love this cardigan, and wish there was a matching top to wear under it? You're in luck. Check out my Ionic sleeveless top.
