Emergence is the process of coming into view after being concealed or hidden. As I write this, it is the last few days of the year 2020. The emergence of the covid19 virus caught the world by surprise, to put it mildly. I prefer to think about other things, those that have nothing to do with isolation, wearing masks, or any of the myriad hardships we’ve all endured this year; I prefer thinking of things like the emergence of the new green shoots that a bulb pushes through the soil’s surface when waking from its winter’s nap, or the flower bud on a rhododendron that has been quietly forming since the previous autumn, and suddenly bursts forth from its hiding place in all its glorious color.

Here, Emergence grows from a cast-on of just four little stitches. It is knit from the point down, increasing in width on one edge to create an asymmetric triangle. Two border options are included, one to be used instead of the other, depending on which size you’re making, or how long your yarn holds out.
