My paternal Grandmother, Gladys, first taught me to knit when I was around 7 years old. She wore a lot of hand knitted jumpers and my favourite was a traditonal, cream coloured aran cardigan, with big greyish buttons. I kept that cardigan after she died & its eventually inspired this pair of cream coloured, cable adored socks, featuring some of the cable motifs from her much loved cardi.

The cable chart can be divided into sections, using stitch markers to make it easier to follow. Make sure you use the reversed chart for the second sock to get a mirrored effect. First published in print as part of my book, ‘The Second Drawer Down’ available from www.trulyhooked.com

Materials:
100g sock yarn (see notes below)
2.5mm mini circular needles for socks, or DPNS, or magic loop cable
stitch marker
darning needle

Suggested yarns:
Sample shown used Truly Hooked Standard sock in Natural.
Any sock yarn is suitable for this pattern. Choose wool fibres for stetch and comfort. I deally your yarn should also include nylon for strenght and durabilty. Avoid slippy fibres and select a solid or tonal colour so the cable pattern shows up. Your fabric should be firm, with a little give. Socks should fell 'bandage tight' when first put on, and will relax with wear, like your favourite pair of jeans.
Other yarns used for tests/projects include:
Cygnet Truly Wool Rich 4ply
West Yorkshire Spinners signature 4ply

Gauge:
18 stitches and 20 rows = 2 inches in cable pattern
