Paswonky
Here's my transcription of Fats' opening piano solo and the final chorus of a quirky instrumental called Paswonky.
This is the first in a series of transcriptions I'll be uploading of a wonderful suite of predominantly piano riff-based instrumental compositions that Fats wrote and recorded with His Rhythm in 1936.
They were also published in sheet music form under the group name of Fats Waller's Swingopations and supposedly transcribed by Ken Macomber from ”Fats“ Waller's original interpretations". Ken Macomber was Fats' arranger and can be heard amongst the invitees of a birthday celebration for Fats in the famous Ristic recording known as "The Gathering". To my ears, though, these published versions, while a good basic guide to the tunes are rather heavy and not an accurate representation of the way Fats actually plays them. I hope to address that perceived discrepancy with these videos.
