Lesson_50_Jacob_Deceived
Jacob worked seven hard years to marry Rachel, and the Bible says they 'seemed like only a few days to him
because of his love for her.' But on the wedding night, his uncle Laban pulled the ultimate bait-and-switch. He
hid his older daughter, Leah, under a heavy wedding veil and gave her to Jacob instead! Jacob woke up the
next morning furious. He, the man who tricked his blind father in the dark, had just been tricked by his uncle
in the dark. Today we look at the bitter taste of unfairness, the literary irony of God's discipline, and ancient
wedding customs.
