Playing with Inks

30 minutes of pure creative freedom — no planning, no pressure, just play.

Feeling stuck? Overthinking? Or just fancy loosening up with colour and mark-making? Playing with Inks is a short, joyful course designed to help you let go and reconnect with the simple pleasure of painting.

This is the same warm-up I use when I haven’t painted in a while or feel creatively blocked. No sketching, no rules — just vibrant inks, bold shapes, and playful exploration.

It’s amazing what appears when you stop trying so hard.

Join me in the Studio!

Filmed by the brilliant Sam @henrygoparkthecar, using three camera angles to make it feel like you're right there in the studio with me. It’s unscripted, unfiltered, and authentic - just me, chatting to you as I paint, in one take, so nothing is edited out!

This is me, sharing the process honestly as it unfolds.

If you can’t get to Fig Tin Studio, this is the next best thing.

Perfect if you:

Want to get painting again, but don’t know where to start.

Feel stuck or uninspired.

Crave freedom in your creative process.

Just want to try something new without overthinking it.

What you’ll need:

  • Glossy acrylic paper (I use Winsor and Newton).
  • 3 acrylic inks in your favourite red, yellow and blue (I use System 3 and Liquitex – UK based).A few crayons and pencils (I use Caran d'Ache NeoPastels, an oil pastel - any colour, Derwent Inktense pencils and blocks, and Stabilo Woodies.
  • A little of your favourite red, yellow and blue acrylic paint or similar. And a dash of titanium white.
  • A water spray bottle and a jar of water.
  • Acrylic paint brushes - I use inexpensive angle brushes, around 1-2cm, (each make says a different size!)
  • Silicon paint shaper (silicon brush), wedge or even a kitchen spatula.
  • Kitchen roll.
  • Baking parchment
  • Tray or palette

What you’ll get:

30 minutes of high-quality, pre-recorded, real-time video guidance.

You’ll see my process as it happens: the decisions I make, the changes I try, and how I problem solve. I'll talk you through each step as we go, focusing on colour, composition, and creating a simple imagined still life from a loose, expressive starting point.

It's a gentle approach that helps you start when starting is often the problem... don't think about it or stress, it's just paint!

No experience needed — just bring your materials, press play, and paint along.
