RAMS-08 Brick and Blockwork - Risk Assessment and Method Statement, Worked Example (Word, UK, 2026)
A complete, paired risk assessment and method statement for Brick and Blockwork, written as a full worked example on a real-looking UK project, the way a principal contractor's reviewer expects to receive it.
Not a blank form. Every hazard row and every step of the sequence is filled in for a named task, with plant, quantities, named roles and the hold points a reviewer looks for. You edit the specifics for your job; the structure, the control hierarchy and the standards table are already right.
Risk assessment (RAMS-08-RA): 10 hazards, each with who is at risk and how, existing controls, likelihood and severity on a 5 × 5 matrix before and after additional controls, the hierarchy of control from MHSWR Schedule 1, PPE beyond site minimum, emergency arrangements and a review record. Hazards covered include:
- Wall collapse - unrestrained new blockwork in a lift over 1.5 m, wind through the openings, head not yet restrained
- Respirable crystalline silica from cutting dense blocks (RCS WEL 0.1 mg/m3, carcinogen)
- Manual handling - 26.5 kg dense blocks laid repetitively to 4.2 m; two-person 35 kg lintels
- Falls - from hop-ups, the mobile tower, into the lift shaft opening at gridline C / 3
- Cement dermatitis and burns - mortar contact, chromium VI
- Silo mixer - moving parts, cement dust when loading, 110 V / 3-phase supply
And 4 more.
Method statement (RAMS-08-MS): scope, persons and competence, 6 items of plant with their inspection requirements, materials and hazardous substances, permits and hold points (4), a 13-step sequence of work with hazards, controls and the check or ITP line for each step, emergency arrangements specific to the task, supervision and stop-work triggers, and the briefing and sign-on record.
