Teach your child to read and write from the very first sounds.

Language Foundations is a structured literacy program built on Orton-Gillingham principles. Each week introduces one phonics pattern alongside grammar, reading comprehension, and writing, all in short, predictable daily lessons. No prep. No guessing. Just open and teach.

Book 1: Sound Foundations covers Weeks 1-9 (Term 1) and takes students from their very first CVC words through independent sentence writing. By the end of this book, your student will blend and segment all five short vowel patterns, read decodable sentences and passages, and write complete sentences with correct capitals and periods.

This is not a phonics worksheet pack. This is a full ELA curriculum. Every week covers five strands: phonics, reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and fluency. Every word your child reads is decodable with the patterns taught so far. Every passage is carefully controlled. Nothing is left to chance.

WHO THIS IS FOR

  • Beginning readers (Grades K-1, Ages 5-7)
  • Homeschool families looking for a complete, structured ELA curriculum
  • Parents who want an Orton-Gillingham aligned program without the training
  • Tutors and reading specialists working with struggling readers
  • Small group or one-on-one instruction settings

No prior OG training is needed. The Teacher Guide tells you exactly what to say and do each day.

HOW IT WORKS

Every day follows the same 15-minute structure:

  1. Phonics warm-up on the whiteboard (3-5 min) - Review sounds, blend words, air-write
  2. Hands-on practice with letter tiles (3-5 min) - Build and spell words, teacher dictates
  3. Workbook pages (5-7 min) - Read, write, and apply what was just practiced

The workbook captures what was learned during hands-on practice. Students never open the book cold. Multi-sensory OG activities (sky-writing, letter tiles, sand tray, word sorts) happen BEFORE every workbook session.

THE LANGUAGE FOUNDATIONS PROGRAM

This book is part of a 3-level structured literacy program:

  • Level 1: First Sounds & Sentences (Grades K-1) - You are here
  • Book 1: Sound Foundations (Weeks 1-9)
  • Book 2: Digraph Mastery (Weeks 10-18)
  • Book 3: Blend Builders (Weeks 19-27)
  • Book 4: Code Crackers (Weeks 28-36)

  • Level 2: Word Patterns & Paragraphs (Grades 1-2)

  • Level 3: Fluency & Composition (Grades 2-3)

After completing all three levels, students are ready to transition to Language Mastery (Levels 4-10, Grades 3-10).

A free placement test is available to help you find the right starting level.

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT

  • Truly decodable. Every word in every passage uses only patterns taught up to that week. No sight-word-heavy texts. No guessing.
  • Complete ELA, not just phonics. Grammar, comprehension, and writing are built into every single week.
  • OG-aligned without the complexity. Multi-sensory activities are built into the lesson plan. You don't need training or certification.
  • 15 minutes a day. Short, focused lessons that fit into any schedule.
  • Teacher guide included. You're never wondering what to teach or how to teach it.
  • Nonsense words for true decoding. Each week includes made-up words to verify your student is actually decoding, not memorizing.
