Locks and Keys Socks

Throughout history, spies and counter-spies have made complex locks with equally complex keys to try to keep things safe. These socks use four simple but related colorwork motifs as keys; along the way you’ll also unlock the “forethought” heel. This heel works on the “afterthought” principle, but works the heel first and then the foot.

Women’s S (M, L) to fit foot circumference of 7 (8, 9)in / 18 (20.5, 23)cm

MATERIALS:

• 2 skeins Malabrigo Sock (100% merino wool; 440yd / 402m to 100g) A: Ochre (yellow) B: Indiecita (green/purple) OR 2 colors 360-440yd / 329-402m light fingering weight yarn each.
• US0 / 2mm needles or size to match gauge
• 2 stitch markers
• Waste yarn for forethought heel
