Nowadays millions believe they need only ‘freedom’ to bring them ‘happiness’.
This is the way not only the prisoner in his cell thinks, – but also the prince who has had to give up many freedoms his ancestors once enjoyed. –
But almost all are tempted by only a spectre of the desert which makes anyone who follows it in good faith fall prey to ‘wild creatures’…

You have reached the supreme form of freedom in the assured consciousness of your reality propagated by eternity; with a shudder you will now think back to the days when you were also in the throng of the deceived, among those who mistook a spectre from the crypts of false longing for the freedom they ardently sought…

So denkt nicht nur der Sträfling in seiner Zelle, – so denkt auch der Fürst, der sich mancher Freiheit begeben mußte, die seine Vorahnen voreinst genossen. –
Aber fast alle sehen nur ein Gespenst der Wüste locken, das jeden zur Beute „wilder Tiere” werden läßt, der ihm guten Glaubens folgt…

Die höchste Form der Freiheit hast du im gesicherten Bewußtsein deiner ewigkeitsgezeugten Wirklichkeit erreicht, und schaudernd nur wirst du der Tage noch gedenken, die auch dich voreinst inmitten der Betörten sahen, denen ein Gespenst aus Grüften irrenden Verlangens für die heißersehnte Freiheit galt…
