***This is a PDF sewing pattern and not a finished product. The pattern will be available for instant download as soon as your payment has been processed.

+++This is a measure and cut pattern which means that there are NO TEMPLATES to print off and match up- Yay! You need a rotary cutter, ruler and mat and you can cut the pattern pieces straight from the fabric. This is easier than it sounds because the pieces are all simple squares and rectangles.

New for this pattern are printable labels to keep track of your pattern pieces as you cut them. Simply print them off, cut them out and pin them to the relevant pieces.

When you buy this pattern, you have my permission to make this bag to sell- no mass production allowed of course but a few to sell at craft fairs or online, that sort of thing is fine. All I ask is that you credit me as the designer. I wish you all the success in the world with sales!

This pattern comes with an extra PDF to help you to identify the front pocket pieces. Please note that this is for illustration only and is not to scale. Not all of the components occur in every pattern and it is not specific to this particular pattern. It is only there to help .

All measurements are in INCHES.

Backpacks are an important part of our bag ‘wardrobe’ and the hot-right-now favourite is the roll top model. You cannot go anywhere online without bumping into one.
I love this straightforward to make, roomy bag because it is at home on the city streets or the trail for a day out. It has handy pockets inside to keep your things organised and plenty of space left over for other daily essentials.
The Arizona is sure to become a perennial favourite. Just the thing for a more stylish morning commute.

Pattern Rating: intermediate sewist with some knowledge assumed. Don’t forget that there are tutes on my blog which focus on the bits which make some techniques easier – zipper box pockets and things like that. Just look out for the links as we need them. There are 18 pages in this detailed pattern and 23 colour photos to help you to achieve just the right look.

Finished Size: 12” wide x 15” tall x 4” deep

Suggested Fabrics: quilting weight cotton, denim, canvas, furnishing fabrics, linen, needle cord, waxed cotton, oilcloth

Gather these supplies:
Fabric:
1 yd. canvas or similar weight fabric for the outer
1 1/8 yd. pure cotton for the lining

Interfacing:
1 yd. Style-vil foam interfacing (Vlieseline) or By Annie's Soft & Stable
Fat Eighth S320 fusible interfacing (Vlieseline), alternatively, Pellon Craft Fuse

Everything Else:
104” x 1 ½” wide webbing for the straps, top handle and front closure
6” (#5) metal zipper for the front pocket
6” (#3) nylon zipper for the internal pocket
2x 1 ½” rectangle rings
2x 1 ½” D rings
2x 1 ½” sliders for the adjustable straps
7” wide x 9” long piece of leather or vegan leather
Fray stopper (optional)
TIP: Fray Stopper is not available everywhere and you can get similarly good results with clear drying glue. Use only as much as is needed and do a test on a scrap of webbing first. Not all of these glues are as clear drying as we would like and to be fair, this hack is not what they were designed for!
Clear drying glue suitable for fabric (you need this even if you are using Fray Stopper for the webbing ends)
Coordinating threads for all fabrics and trims
Your usual sewing needs including scissors, markers, and extra feet for your sewing machine (zipper foot for example). You know, the usual stuff!
