+++This is a measure and cut pattern which means that there are NO TEMPLATES to print off and match up- Yay! You need a rotary cutter, ruler and mat and you can cut the pattern pieces straight from the fabric. This is easier than it sounds because the pieces are all simple squares and rectangles.

When you buy this pattern, you have my permission to make this bag to sell- no mass production allowed of course but a few to sell at craft fairs or online, that sort of thing is fine. All I ask is that you credit me as the designer. I wish you all the success in the world with sales!

All measurements are in INCHES.

For any little one starting school, a new bag is a must! It builds the excitement and sense of adventure and the Southampton backpack is a perfect size to carry the essentials. But something appeared to be missing…a pencil case was also needed and it had to match! I remember getting my pencils on the first day of school (I have remained an art supply addict ever since) and having somewhere to store them was extra special.
So this pattern has a matching pencil case which is quick and easy to make from scraps. And you have time to make both before school starts!

Pattern Rating: confident beginner bag maker with some knowledge assumed.

Finished Size: Backpack: 9” wide x 9 ½” tall x 3” deep

Gather these supplies:
All supplies give enough for the bag and the pencil case

Fabric:
½ yd. canvas or similar weight fabric
½ yd. light weight denim for the lining. I am using Solid Smooth Denim in indigo Shadow from The Denim Studio by Art Gallery Fabrics

Interfacing:
½ yd. Style-vil foam interfacing (Vlieseline) or By Annie's Soft & Stable
½ yd. H630 fusible wadding (Vlieseline) or Bosal Style #326LF Light Fusible Batting

F8th S320 fusible interfacing or Pellon Craft Fuse

Everything Else:
2x 1” rectangle rings
2x 1” bag sliders
2x bullet head (Sam Browne) rivets for the front closure
TIP: buy bullet head rivets a little larger because that makes them easier for little fingers to manage.
50” x 1” wide cotton webbing
10” sq. thin leather or vegan leather for the straps and handle trim
7” heavy duty (#5) zipper for the pencil case
Clear drying glue suitable for fabric
Coordinating threads for all fabrics and trims
Your usual sewing needs including scissors, markers, and extra feet for your sewing machine (zipper foot for example). You know, the usual stuff!
