+++This is a measure and cut pattern which means that there are NO TEMPLATES to print off and match up- Yay! You need a rotary cutter, ruler and mat and you can cut the pattern pieces straight from the fabric. This is easier than it sounds because the pieces are all simple squares and rectangles plus one very easy circle.
When you buy this pattern, you have my permission to make this bag to sell- no mass production allowed of course but a few to sell at craft fairs or online, that sort of thing is fine. All I ask is that you credit me as the designer. I wish you all the success in the world with sales!

There is something essentially romantic about a retro dilly bag for the beach. This one is not overly large – it doesn’t fit a huge towel in but it is perfectly sized for the essentials – a drink, sunscreen and a good read. It has room for a cover-up too and other things which make the beach a happy place. Not going to the beach? Doesn’t matter, feel like life on a tropical island and take this one shopping! It has a drawstring cord which turns it into a shoulder bag and some handy pockets allow for the needs of a shopping trip.
Pattern Rating: intermediate sewist with some knowledge of techniques assumed. Some simple shaping of the base disk required.
Finished Size: 15” tall x 10” base diameter
Suggested Fabrics: quilting weight cotton, denim, canvas, furnishing fabrics, linen, needle cord
Gather these supplies:
Fabric:
½ yd. bright printed canvas for the exterior
¾ yd. coordinating cotton for the lining
Interfacing:
¾ yd. style-vil foam interfacing (Vlieseline) or By Annie’s Soft and Stable
Fat 8th S320 fusible interfacing for the internal pockets (Vlieseline) or Pellon Craft Fuse
Everything Else:
6” metal zipper (#5) for the exterior pocket
11x 14mm eyelets
Scrap of leather or vegan leather 5” x 10”
2 ½ yds. 6mm hemp rope or similar cord
Coordinating threads for all fabrics and trims
10” circular item such as a dinner plate or an embroidery hoop.
Your usual sewing needs including scissors, markers, and extra feet for your sewing machine (zipper foot for example). You know, the usual stuff!
