In Rich Through His Poverty, Michael E.B. Maher presents a balanced biblical view of prosperity for New Covenant believers. He argues that it is God’s will for His children to have all their needs met and to have abundance for every good work, not to live in poverty or lack. God is both able and willing to supply—through favour with employers, creative ideas, supernatural provision, and blessing the work of one’s hands.

Maher defines biblical riches as having “all sufficiency in all things,” not worldly luxury. He warns against covetousness and the love of money, which lead to destruction. Contentment with food, clothing, and shelter is godly gain.

The book examines Jesus’ life as the example: He lived without owning a home but never lacked, was generous, and was supported by wealthy disciples. The apostles lived modestly and warned against greed. Saints are encouraged to work diligently, give cheerfully, and live balanced, contented lives.

Maher rejects mandatory tithing for gentile believers, arguing it belongs to the Old Covenant law and produces bondage. Instead, believers should give freely from their abundance as the Spirit leads. Finally, he emphasizes that poverty, sickness, and destruction come from Satan, not God. Believers have authority to resist the devil, close doors through holiness, and confess God’s protection (Psalm 91) to walk in divine prosperity and safety.
