Clematis is an old Shetland border stitch (as well as one of my all-time favorite flowers). Though it’s lovely traveling up the side of something or attached to the outer edge of a square or rectangular stole, I thought it would be even prettier when traveling up the outer edges of a triangle. I flipped one side of the chart, so that the edges are mirror images of each other, then added a simple garter stitch center to make this shawl as cozy to wear as it is beautiful.

The shawl starts by casting on just five little stitches at the bottom point. The lace grows from this point into a delicate lace edging winding its way up both sides of the shawl, framing the garter stitch center. It is topped off with a whimsical little edge worked as an applied border.
