SICKNESS VS HEALTH – Even As Your Soul Prospers by Bro H
“Beloved, I wish above all things That you may prosper and be in health, Even as your soul prospers.” [Verse 1] The order is written: the soul must prosper; The inward man must first be fed. The body cannot rise above it While the spirit is starving for bread. “My son, attend to my words; Incline your ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart, For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.” Desire the sincere milk of the Word, Then grow from the milk to strong meat. Those of full age have trained their senses To discern both good and evil. [Chorus] Even as your soul prospers, May you prosper and be in health. Let the Word dwell richly within you; Let its life be revealed in your flesh. He sent His Word and healed them; He delivered them from destruction. Sound doctrine governs the whole man; The body reveals what is ruling within. [Verse 2] “Exercise yourself unto godliness, For bodily exercise profits a little; But godliness is profitable unto all things, Having promise of the life that now is, And of that which is to come.” Train the inward man with discipline; Return to the Word every day. Rise and pray lest you enter temptation; Keep your heart established in His way. The disciples slept in the garden When the hour of testing drew near. The spirit grows weak without prayer, And the body soon shares in its weakness. [Verse 3] “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, Which you have of God, and you are not your own. For you are bought with a price: Therefore glorify God in your body, And in your spirit, which are God’s.” The One who fashioned the body Also appointed the food it should receive. Clean provision, temperance and gratitude Are covenant acts of obedience. Even honey can make a man sick When appetite refuses command. Self-control is strength under command, The power to govern your own hand. [Verse 4] “Be not conformed to this world, But be transformed by the renewing of your mind, That you may prove what is that good, Acceptable and perfect will of God.” Bring every thought into obedience; Do not let imagination reign. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life; Pleasant words bring health to the bones. Release every debt you are holding; Forgive as you ask to be forgiven. Bitterness poisons the vessel that bears it; Forgiveness lets the old wound close. [Verse 5 — solemn] “Let a man examine himself, And so let him eat of that bread And drink of that cup.” He who eats and drinks unworthily Brings judgment upon himself; Not discerning the body of the Lord— For this cause many are weak and sickly, And many sleep. Come to the table in truth and repentance; Be reconciled with your brother. Discern the body, remember His covenant, And walk in rebellion no longer. [Bridge — warm rise] “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To preach deliverance to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are bruised.” The blind received sight; the lame walked; The fever departed at His touch. The bruised were set free from oppression; The captives recovered their strength. [Final Chorus] Even as your soul prospers, May you prosper and be in health. Let the Word dwell richly within you; Let its life be revealed in your flesh. The Sun of Righteousness rises With healing in His wings; The river of life runs clear from the throne, And the leaves bring healing to the nations. [Outro — quiet assurance] Together let us bless the Lord And forget none of His benefits: Who forgives all our iniquities; Who heals all our diseases; Who redeems our lives from destruction; Who crowns us with loving-kindness And tender mercies.
