[SPH] Walther P99
The Walther P99 is a semi-automatic pistol developed by the German firm Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen and introduced in 1997 as a modern duty/service handgun for police and civilian markets. It was designed to combine a compact, ergonomic polymer-frame package with advanced trigger and safety features that simplified training and enhanced controllability.
Chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum, the P99 uses a short-recoil, locked-breech system with a striker-fired fire control. The pistol also incorporates a number of safety systems and an ergonomic, low-profile slide to aid rapid sight acquisition.
The P99 feeds from double-stack detachable box magazines (standard 15-round capacity in 9mm), and its polymer frame includes interchangeable backstraps and ambidextrous controls to fit a wide range of shooters.
Praised for its ergonomics, reliability, and forward-thinking features, the P99 was adopted by several European police forces and influenced later Walther designs. Though newer designs have since appeared, the P99 remains an important late-20th-century service pistol that helped popularize striker-fired ergonomics and modular grips in modern handguns.
