Oregano has been around since ancient times both in and out of the kitchen. It had many
medicinal properties then and it still does now. It was used in the kitchen and it is still used there
now so those from ancient times started a tradition that is still followed to this day. Ancient
Greek and Roman civilizations used it for medicinal purposes. In fact, the name oregano comes
from the Greek words “oros,” meaning mountain, and “ganos,” meaning joy or delight.
Oregano's uniqueness is fully utilized in many different ways and will be for years to come.

Introduction to Oregano Oil
Oregano oil is extracted from the leaves and flowers of the oregano plant, which is a member of
the mint family. It is a potent source of antioxidants and has been used for centuries in traditional
medicine for its numerous health benefits. Oregano oil has a long history of use in traditional and
folk medicine practices, including Native American natural medicine. Oregano oil is particularly
rich in a compound called carvacrol, which has been shown to have antiviral, antibacterial, and
antifungal properties. Oregano oil is the extract and, although it’s not as strong as the essential
oil, it appears to be useful when consumed, or applied to the skin. Essential oils, on the other
hand, are not meant to be consumed.
