Walk in Philadelphia # 4, South Street and Italian Market
This self-guided tour is approximately 2 miles long (or 3 miles depending on your starting and ending points) and connects two must-see shopping streets, each with its own distinct character.
It passes through Queen Village, a formerly working-class neighborhood where historic buildings and youthful energy now coexist harmoniously, and Bella Vista, a neighborhood that was once predominantly Italian (hence its name) and is now home to a large South Asian and Latino population.
You'll stroll and window-shop in the first part of the tour, then discover quiet streets lined with restaurants and local shops and finally end at a market that spills onto the sidewalks, a feast for the eyes.
Allow about two hours to complete the tour, more if you use the metro, visit the Magic Garden, and stop for lunch along the way.
