correct needle size to achieve a good firm gauge that you are comfortable knitting. Pattern is needle neutral, and you may substitute your preferred method of small circumference knitting
Any gauge: but wind and weatherproof mittens will be created by knitting more firmly.
Knitting in the round
tapestry needle to weave in ends.
Yarn and yardage
Use any yarn or yarns that please you. My striped sample is DK and light worsted yarns and striped to make use of scraps. The green and blue version is one strand of DK and one of aran. You can can use any combination of yarns with any colour pattern. Adding stitch patterns is also an option if you wish. You’ll get harder wearing mittens with yarns that are plied and have a good tight twist. Yardage will be size and yarn weight dependent: allow about 100-300 m/110-330 yds for child sizes and 200-550m/ 220-600yds for adult sizes.
Always allow extra yarn
