Use this pattern to crochet a pair of mitts, cowl or a headband, or why not make the matching set? This pattern is an excellent skill builder, using simple stitches to create texture. Perfect for using up leftovers of DK yarn – try colourblocking the rib edgings or using scraps to make stripes.

Yarn:

DK weight yarn, 200-230 m per 100 g

Headband - 30 (35, 40, 45) g

Mitts - 55 (60, 70, 75, 80) g

Cowl - 75 g

Hook: 4.0 mm / G-6 or size to achieve gauge.

3.5 mm / E-4 or one size smaller than gauge hook.


Notions: Tapestry needle.


Skills: Chain, double crochet, half treble, working into back loop, seaming, weaving in ends, blocking.


Gauge: 20 stitches and 16 rows over 10 cm / 4” in texture pattern after blocking. Gauge is not critical for this project, but different gauges will affect the finished size and yarn required.


Sizing: The headband has a circumference of 39 (44, 49, 54) cm / 15½ (17½, 19½, 21½)” and a depth of 7.5 cm / 3”. Suggested ease is 2.5-5 cm / 1-2” negative ease.

The mitts have a palm circumference of 15 (17, 19, 21, 23) cm / 6 (6¾, 7½, 8½, 9¼)” and a length of 20 cm / 8”. Suggested ease is from 2.5 cm / 1” negative to zero ease.

The cowl has a circumference of 62 cm / 24¾” and a depth of 15 cm / 6”. Suggested ease is 5-12.5 cm / 2-5” positive ease.
