Flip Top Mittens

I knitted my daughter some flip top mittens when she was little and I thought then why don't adults have these too? So here they finally are. With a covered thumb, easy pick up for the flip top there is no sewing involved (apart from the ends).


Difficulty

You will need to be able to complete a cast on, cast off, knit and purl stitches whilst knitting in the round with the instructions for the lifeline and picking up the flip tops are given with photos.


Finished circumferences

Small - 18 cm / 7 inches

Medium - 19 cm / 7.5 inches

Large - 20.5 cm / 8 inches

Measured around the knuckles of your dominant hand, not including the thumb


Materials

Double knit yarn / light worsted / 8 ply - 70g / 80g / 90g - 200m / 230m / 260m

I used the wonderful Small Flock Yarns from Sussex in their special Wallis Barcombe Diamond Flock yarn

Needles: 3.75mm either double pointed needles or small circulars

Scrap yarn to hold the thumb stitches

Scrap yarn to use for the lifeline

Two stitch markers (three if using small circulars to show the beginning of round)

Sewing up needle and scissors
