Donnatella Sweater

Donnatella Sweater is a Tunisian crochet top down raglan with a snowflake colorwork motif across the front, the back, and both sleeves. This is an advanced pattern, built for makers who already know how to Tunisian crochet in the round and are ready to take on colorwork. The colorwork sections run long, so you’ll be carrying extended floats or breaking yarn and weaving in ends throughout, whichever method you prefer.

I designed Donnatella for myself. The idea started years ago, watching Donna Moss wear a snowflake sweater on The West Wing, and I never stopped thinking about making my own version. My original sample is cream and red for a holiday look, but swap in a different palette and the snowflake motif works all winter long.

Top Down - Customizable total sweater length 

Compound Raglan 

Short Rows - All sizes include short rows including around the neckline to shape the neckline and lengthen the back to prevent the front and back from riding up 

Colorwork Design - The Colorwork is proportional for all sizes.

PATTERN 

Pattern is written in US terms 

Directions are written to accommodate left- and right-handed crocheters.

SKILL LEVEL 

Advanced: requires knowledge of Tunisian crochet in the round (2 hooks) and color work 

Crochet Ribbing for neckline, sleeves, and bottom 

Tutorials are included to assist with short rows, working in the round, and color work.

SIZES: 

Pattern provides instructions for sizes 1 - 18. The sweater is designed for you to choose your own positive ease. Model is shown wearing a sweater with 2 in positive ease. See photos for size chart.

YARN: 

- DK (3)

Note: These estimates are the upper end of estimates across the sizes.

YARN SUBSTITUTIONS 

Any DK weight yarn 231 yds/100 g or 246 yds/100 g should allow for gauge.

HOOK: 

6.5 mm Tunisian hook or size needed to make gauge 

3.75 & 4.0 mm crochet hook for ribbing 

Note: This sweater is made with a loose gauge to achieve the drape. It is likely you will need to use a 7 or 8 mm hook for the body.

TESTING 

This is a #sizeinclusive pattern that was attempted to be tested across all eighteen sizes. However, no tester in sizes 7 - 9 completed the test. If you are one of those sizes and interested in testing, please email me for a free copy of the pattern to test.
