"New goals don't deliver new results. New lifestyles do. And a lifestyle is a process, not an outcome. For this reason, all of your energy should go into building better habits, not chasing better results." - James Clear

In early 2024 I was heading to a big spearfishing competition and then a big personal spearfishing trip North in W.A. I wanted to be Spear Ready and I thought I could take people on a journey with me and create a program that we could all use time and again.

Problem: In the past, I have planned for big spearfishing trips and worked my ass off trying to get ahead with admin, finance and social credit with my wife and family in order to go. The PROBLEM is that when I get there, I’m not in the physical condition necessary to make the most of it. What I NEED is an easy to follow recipe that I can rinse and repeat every time I get a special charter or trip to go and spearfish. I want to make the most of it and be SPEAR READY.

So I consulted the best and I mean the very best in order to become SPEAR READY

For nutrition, I consulted Jared Rosenburg so that I didn't waste time searching the internet for a time consuming mess that would be difficult to integrate into a busy life.

For freediving, I consulted Adam Stern, & Dr Jaap Verbaas to deliver a practical results oriented program that will help us dive at our very best with comfort and confidence.

For strength and conditioning, I consulted Jared from Earth and Ocean Fit to improve my finning endurance, strength and performance and minimize my whiney, bitch ass cramping and fatigue.

For flexibility, I consulted Dr Jaap Verbaas and Jared Rosenburg to help me become more pliable in and around my chest, throat and upper body area and potentially fix some postural issues that will help with breathing (if you are a desk worker, this’ll help).

I want to swim for miles, punch out decent dives and look after my buddy even on long swims.

I want to dive deep (for me) and stay longer (for me).

I DON’T want to feel like a drag or be a liability to my mates.

I DON’T want to be unsafe.

I DON’T want to use half the trip working my way into dive fitness and miss the opportunity of a lifetime.

I want to be SPEAR READY

In this 50 day guided program, you will become SPEAR READY

To make this actionable and practical in our busy lives, I’ve made the program accessible in 3 modes.

  • Good is 2-3 hours total duration (per week) that I can achieve as I get about my day to day tasks.

  • Better is 3-6 hours total duration (per week) that is moderately more difficult but demonstrably better for getting me SPEAR READY.

  • Best is 4-7 hours total duration (per week) that will have me at my best (hence the name;)

If you go spearfishing during the week, you can subtract a workout. I can guarantee no other prep program is saying that!

FAQ

Q: Love the look of the course and will definitely be purchasing for a trip I have planned later this year. More than likely heading into a bit of a dry spell over the next few months though with a baby on the way - my question for you is - do you think the course will work as a part of a longer term training routine? I’ll probably do it either way, just keen to know whether it’s worth jumping in now and sticking at it for 6 months or so, or whether to get the most out of it I’m better off just doing the 50 day thing as the name would suggest! Keen to hear your thoughts! - Jack

A: Hey Jack, It is an intense 50 days but is definitely a good place to lay a foundation for ongoing training.

Once you are in, you can restart the 50 days at any time and we are also including further training plans and options which will include some maintenance ideas.

Basically if you can do 1 apnea training session, 1 interval training session, a bodyweight full body workout with decent stretching each week, you can maintain a decent level of dive fitness. Probably the biggest benefit to the Spear Ready training is the community facebook group and live zoom calls when we have a live intake running. So many good ideas for training come from the crew in there. Lot's of knowledge and experience and I think hearing other peoples training and seeing the results keeps you motivated. - Shrek
