Alleluia (Glory to God in the Highest) is an original sacred choral work by Johan Hefer, written for intermediate SAB choir and setting the traditional liturgical text from Luke 2:14.

The music combines a warm, traditional choral character with a more contemporary contrasting interlude before returning to the opening material. The vocal writing has a gentle canon-like quality, with musical ideas passed between the voices and gradually developing into richer melodic textures.

The central interlude provides the work's most distinctive contrast. Short, crisp Alleluia figures in the Soprano and Baritone create a light, pitter-patter effect suggestive of rainfall, while the Alto sings "Glory to God in the Highest" in a broader and more majestic line. The music then returns to the joyful character of the opening.

The result is a short, lively work that is approachable for an intermediate choir while giving singers and audiences something memorable to discover.
