Miserere Mei, Deus (Allegri) – Ordinary SAB Choir & Organ
Miserere Mei, Deus (The Allegri Miserere)
Complete Performance Pack
Arranged for Ordinary SAB Choir with Organ and Optional Solo Instrument
Designed for ordinary church, school and community choirs who love great sacred music but don't have the resources for the original scoring.
Gregorio Allegri's Miserere Mei, Deus is one of the most treasured works of the Renaissance, renowned for its haunting beauty and the famous soaring soprano line. The original, however, requires a nine-part double choir and specialist singers beyond the reach of most community choirs.
This edition faithfully captures the atmosphere and spiritual intensity of the original while making it practical for today's church, school and community choirs.
Arrangement Features
- Accessible SAB Voicing: Carefully adapted from the original double-choir scoring into a practical and resonant SAB format while preserving the distinctive antiphonal character of the work.
- The "High C" Solution: The famous soaring soprano line is presented as a flexible obbligato part that may be sung by a confident soprano soloist or performed by Violin, Flute or Oboe. A separate instrumental part is included.
- Faithful Liturgical Character: The traditional falsobordone chant has been retained, with detailed performance notes to guide conductors and soloists in its free, speech-like delivery.
- Supportive Organ Accompaniment: A dedicated three-staff organ accompaniment provides harmonic support while preserving the reflective atmosphere of the original. The accompaniment is equally suitable for piano or digital keyboard.
- Designed for Worship: At approximately four minutes, this abridged version is particularly suited to Ash Wednesday, Lent, Holy Week, Tenebrae services and sacred concerts.
