Chalana Socks

Sock knitting can be both comforting and captivating at once. Chalana Socks feature an elegant, easy-to-memorize non-open lace pattern that grows quickly on the needles.

The stitch pattern reminds me of the flow of a gentle stream cascading through lush greenery on a calm summer day. I’m thrilled with how this translated into the sock. “Chalana” means movement, and I think the name suits the design well. ✨

PATTERN FEATURES

♡The socks are worked from the cuff-down. 

♡The pattern incorporates shadow-wrap short row heels and rounded toes. 

♡Instructions are provided to work the sock with or without a mini gusset. 

♡Instructions for distributing stitches are provided for both magic loop and double-pointed needles. 

♡Both written and charted instructions are given for the stitch pattern used on the instep and leg.

♡A Note About Mini Gussets 

A mini gusset adds a small triangular section of fabric at the heel to improve fit—especially helpful for high arches. It creates extra room by adding stitches before the short row heel and decreasing back afterward. This not only enhances comfort but also reinforces a high-stress area, increasing sock durability.

To fit foot circumferences: 8.5 (9, 9.5, 10)“ / 21 (23, 24, 25) cm with approx. 1”/2-3 cm of negative ease. 

Size 1 sample shown on 8.75” / 22 cm foot circumference.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Sock Circumference: 7.5 (8, 8.5, 9)“ / 19 (20, 21, 23) cm. 

Leg Length: 7.75 (7.75, 8.5, 8.75)” / 19 (19, 21, 22) cm. 

Foot Length: 8 (8.5, 9, 9.5)“ / 20 (21, 23, 24) cm.

YARN REQUIREMENTS

296 (328, 374, 410) yards / 271 (300, 342, 375) m of fingering weight yarn.

YARN USED IN SAMPLE

1 skein of Little Skein Targhee Sock, 90% Superwash American Targhee, 10% Nylon. 

465 yards / 426 m per 115g / 4 oz in Nourish colorway.

NEEDLES USED

2.25 mm / US 1 circular needles, minimum length 32”/ 80 cm for working magic loop. 

OR 

Set of five 2.25mm / US 1 double pointed needles.

GAUGE

32 sts x 44 rnds = 4” / 10 cm, in stockinette and Chart A stitch pattern in the round, blocked.

NOTIONS

Tapestry needle, 1 BOR marker. 

Optional: 2 stitch markers to work the mini gusset.
