UK Edition: Collating and Packet Assembly Work Task Box, SEND, KS4 and Post-16

Collating comes up in almost every office placement I arrange for learners: welcome packs, meeting folders, sign up forms. It takes reading, sequencing, counting and checking your own work. This work task box lets learners practise all of that at a table before they try it on a real job.

How it works

Learners build packets by putting pages in order, checking the count and finishing each one with a staple, clip or folder. Three levels let you match the task to the learner. The Hold Slip is on purpose: on a real job, when a page runs out, you set those packets aside and tell someone.

What you get (26 pages plus an editable Word file)

• Level A: 12 packet cards with 3 numbered pages each

• Level B: 24 packet tickets with 4 or 5 pages in order, plus a finish

• Level C: 24 work orders with quantities, including 3 empty page bin orders and 3 orders where a colleague's packet has an extra copy

• 12 page cards to print and collate

• Done and Hold mats, finish cards, a "4 checks" page and Hold Slips

• 3 practice pages, an answer key with self check codes, a data sheet and a 10 session accuracy graph

• A try it for real plan with a supervisor check, and blank cards

How I use it

I model the 4 checks out loud (order, count, facing, finish), then learners work one level at a time. I record accuracy and prompt level, and when a learner is steady at Level C we take a real packet job from the school office.

Who it is for: KS4, post 16 and young adult SEND groups, supported internship leads, job coaches and work experience coordinators. The data sheet gives you accuracy and prompt level evidence you can bring to an EHCP annual review under Preparing for Adulthood: employment.
