The Hummingbird Experience

Bring the wonder of nature to your community.

There’s something quietly unforgettable about meeting a hummingbird.

For one impossible second, it hangs suspended in the air, wings beating faster than the eye can follow—and then, just as suddenly, it’s gone.

Created to bring people together through shared discovery of the natural world, The Hummingbird Experience is a complete, prepared-for-you group nature program centered around the remarkable Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

Over the course of 55–60 minutes, your group will journey into the hummingbird’s world through fascinating science, storytelling, conversation, and shared discovery.

Together, you’ll uncover how these tiny birds migrate across continents, remember the flowers they’ve visited, defend their territories with astonishing determination, communicate with one another, and survive against extraordinary odds.

Everything has already been researched, written, organized, and designed for you. Simply open the guide, follow the script, and lead an engaging nature experience with confidence—no previous knowledge of hummingbirds required.

Inside your Hummingbird Experience

A complete 13-page Facilitator Guide

A fully written, read-and-lead script guides the facilitator through the entire experience, with clear pacing notes, conversation prompts, participant activities, and natural transitions throughout.

A coordinated 10-page Participant Field Packet

Each group member receives an illustrated packet created to complement the experience, including a Ruby-throated Hummingbird field guide, trivia, reflection pages, and opportunities for personal observation and discovery.

Conversation and reflection woven throughout

Carefully placed prompts invite curiosity, reminiscence, personal stories, and shared conversation—helping the experience feel participatory without placing pressure on anyone to contribute.

Support for mixed-ability and memory-care groups

Adaptations are integrated throughout the facilitator guide, making it easier to adjust the program’s pace, language, questions, and activities for different groups and levels of participation.

Optional ways to continue exploring

Extension ideas allow your group to carry the experience beyond the initial hour through observation, creative reflection, and continued conversation.

A note from Liz

I’m excited to share the hummingbird experience with you. It's my hope that this is the start of an on-going nature partnership with your community as I continue designing new nature programs for your groups to enjoy.

If there is a particular nature topic you would like to explore together, I’d love to hear your suggestions as I consider future Nature by Liz prepared-for-you experiences throughout the year.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, I’m happy to offer my support. Please reach out at any time.
