The first McLean County Probate Court began in 1838 with a guardian case. Probate Court decided on estate and guardian issues. This book is the written record of the court from 1838-1849. Original name index is in the front of the document, followed by 407 pages of case notes, followed by Excel format comprehensive name index.

A name index with over 1,000 entries is at the back showing Find a Grave # if known, role in the case, date of death, ages of children for which guardian was sought, Box and File # at Court house for actual case documents.

This book contains full text of wills (but most folks died intestate), who petitioned the court, who posted the guardian and probate bonds.

Many people in this book died in McLean County and are not found on Ancestry or on Family Search. This book may be the only record they existed in McLean County.
