When the Joy of the Lord Kicks In was my final composition in 2020. The idea was to end the year on a positive note after writing so much dark and dissonant music. 

This is the fourth composition in a series that utilizes an original technique I invented in the 90's for brass quintet. I never really tried to apply that technique to smaller instrumentations and even assumed it wasn't something that would work very well. 2020 put me in the mood to test that assumption. 

The series began with a duet (talk about putting the assumption to the test!). That experiment produced La Phantacita March. Then I wrote a trumpet trio called Beware of Modern Oracles. The third composition in the series is a piece called Darkest Night Brightest Light.

The original composition that started it all was written in the 90's and is titled Three Famous Soldiers.
