Aloha Shawlette and Shawl

Aloha! The very word evokes sunshine, sand, and rainbows. The Aloha Shawlette is a little heart shaped confection that features alternating rainbow and seafoam stripes, a repeating lei of flowers or shells, and a knit-on lace edging. It was designed to showcase two 50g skeins of Stitchjones Pai Mei Sock yarn in Rainbow Shave Ice and Warm Sand for the 2014 Stitchjones Yarnageddon Club.

The result was so enchanting, we had to create a larger shawl from 100g skeins, too. Instructions for both sizes are included in the pattern, with slightly different edgings which are proportional for each piece.

Note on gauge: It’s knit at a loose gauge so that it can be light and airy. This is especially important for the small shawlette so it can be big enough when blocked. It’s not as important for the large shawlette. I knit both of mine on a size 5 Signature (metal, and metal makes me knit pretty loosely), and my test knitter Rachel trtlgrl knit on a size 7. It sounds like an absurdly large needle, but this plied yarn is round and airy and it can handle it! (It’s not a skinny single)

Aloha is knit with fingering/sock weight yarn.
