Age Pension Estimator (Australia): Income & Assets Test, Gifting, Downsizing, Super Drawdowns
NEW: Google Sheets edition included. Your download now also has a PDF with a one-click link to make your own Google Sheets copy (same formulas, checked cell by cell against the Excel version).
See your estimated fortnightly Age Pension under both the income test and the assets test, and which one sets your pension. Services Australia pays the lower of the two. This workbook shows you both, step by step, using the rates from 20 September 2026.
What it tells you
- Your estimated pension per fortnight and per year: for the household, and for each eligible person.
- Which test applies (income or assets), and how much more income or assets you could have before your pension starts to fall.
- Gifting: how much of a planned gift falls within the $10,000-a-year and $30,000-over-5-years limits, how much still counts as yours for 5 years, and what that does to your pension.
- Downsizing: your pension today, while you are between homes (sale proceeds exempt for up to 24 months and deemed at the lower rate), after you buy the cheaper home, and if you sell and rent instead.
- Super drawdowns: two yearly drawdowns from an account-based pension compared over 10 years. It shows the balance, the pension each year, and a check against the minimum drawdown for your age.
Built on the official figures
Every rate and threshold sits on a Rates & Rules tab with its effective date and source: the DSS payment rates for 20 September 2026, the 1 July 2026 thresholds, and the deeming rates of 1.75% and 3.75%. When the rates change each March and September, you update a handful of yellow cells. A Checks tab confirms the workbook reproduces the published DSS income and asset cut-offs and Services Australia's own deeming examples.
Built and checked by a CPA. Every formula tested against a separate calculation.
