A Day's Fishing

Six lively boys are enjoying their summer vacation at Clovernook Farm, engaging in various outdoor activities and games. On their last day, they embark on a fishing trip, where they encounter a ragged boy named Sam on a raft. Initially met with laughter, Sam surprises them by offering to sell crickets and grasshoppers he has caught for their fishing. Mr. Hobart, the boys' guardian, shows kindness by inviting Sam to join their picnic, learning about his difficult circumstances and the absence of his family. Moved by his situation, Mr. Hobart offers Sam a job for the fall and winter, providing him an opportunity for stability, and the boys welcome him into their company.
