Kudzu | A Hearthside Study

A 12-page individual Bible study about abiding in Christ, discerning overgrowth, and making room for what is genuinely bearing fruit.

The danger was never simply that it grew.

The danger was that it looked like growth.

Kudzu begins with green hillsides along familiar roads in southwest Virginia, where a vigorous vine covers trees, fence rows, and old buildings without making them disappear. From that landscape comes a deeper question—what might good opportunities, worthwhile commitments, and reasonable yeses be quietly covering in our own lives?

Rooted in John 15:1–5 and Hebrews 12:1, this Hearthside Study considers abiding in Christ as the source of fruitfulness, the Father’s pruning, and the distinction between sin and the weights that hinder faithful endurance. It explores how to recognize what has accumulated, protect what is flourishing, and prayerfully discern what may need to change without abandoning responsibilities God has genuinely entrusted to us.

Inside the 12-page designed PDF, you’ll find the original Kudzu essay, Scripture readings and context, eight guided study and reflection questions, personal reflection prompts, a closing prayer and application, and space for notes. The study can be worked through quietly on your own or shared informally with others around a table.

This download includes: one 12-page, full-color designed PDF for personal use.
