[SPH] Arisaka Type 38
The Arisaka Type 38 is a Japanese bolt-action rifle adopted in 1905 and used by the Imperial Japanese Army through World War II. Chambered in 6.5×50mmSR Arisaka, it features a five-round internal magazine loaded via stripper clips. The rifle has a 797mm barrel, an overall length of 1,280mm, and weighs approximately 4.2 kg.
Designed for durability and reliability, the Type 38 uses a Mauser-style bolt-action system with a cock-on-close mechanism and a two-piece stock for added strength. It has a large, knurled safety knob at the rear of the bolt, which could be engaged by pressing and rotating it. The 6.5mm cartridge was low in recoil and allowed for precise shooting but was considered underpowered compared to contemporary rifle rounds like the 7.92×57mm Mauser or .30-06 Springfield.
Despite being replaced by the Type 99 in the late 1930s, the Type 38 remained in service throughout World War II, particularly with rear-line units, training divisions, and allied forces such as Manchukuo and Thailand. Many captured Type 38 rifles were later used in China, Korea, and Southeast Asia after the war.
