Crisis Case Study: Crocodile Contracting

Crises follow predictable cycles as they unfold.

While the content, timing and people’s reactions will change, there will be an event or series of events that set the crisis in motion, things will feel out of control for a period of time, you will gradually regain control, recover and learn from what happened.

The Resilience to Recovery Framework recognises five distinct phases: Planning for Resilience, Surviving the Storm, Shifting Gears, Recovering with Purpose and Drawing a Line in the Sand.

This case study, based on the response to extreme weather events by fictional business Crocodile Contracting, demonstrates what happens at each of the phases.

Neither the company not the events outlined in this case study are real, although they do share similarities with real events and real businesses. The purpose of this case study is to illustrate what could happen in each of these phases and provide insights into some of the challenges leaders face throughout the full crisis cycle.
