The Waffen SS Estonian Fighters, also known as the Estonian Legion or the Eesti SS, were a division of the Waffen-SS composed of Estonian volunteers who fought on the side of Nazi Germany during World War II. The division was formed in 1942 and saw action in various fronts including the Eastern Front and the Balkans. The division was notorious for its involvement in war crimes, including the massacre of civilians in the village of Porlitz in Belarus. Despite its atrocities, the Waffen SS Estonian Fighters gained a reputation for being a highly skilled and effective fighting force, and many of its members were fiercely loyal to the Nazi cause until the end of the war. After the war, some members of the division were tried and convicted for their crimes, while others managed to escape justice by fleeing to other countries.
