Broken Town
This one is hard to talk about without feeling a real weight in my chest. I grew up in Grimsby, and watching the town change over the decades has been a slow-motion heartbreak. I remember it when there was a real sense of hope and industry, but "Broken Town" is about what’s left now—the despair and the neglect that seem to have settled into the very brickwork.
I didn't want to just write about buildings, though; I wanted to write about the people I see every day who are caught in the gears of that decline. The lyrics get into the lives of the residents who are just barely keeping their heads above water and the folks who’ve been pushed to the margins. It’s a snapshot of what happens when a community is left behind and people get trapped in a cycle of poverty that feels impossible to break. It’s a sad song, but I felt like I owed it to my hometown to tell the truth about how it feels to be there right now.
