Preview the complete 4-week Frankenstein Novel Study before you buy!

This FREE 9-page preview gives high school ELA teachers a closer look at the structure, instructional approach, and student activities included in the complete Frankenstein Novel Study for Grades 9–12.

Designed around Mary Shelley’s classic Gothic novel, the full resource guides students through Letters 1–4 and Chapters 1–24 while developing close reading, literary analysis, critical thinking, written response, and text-evidence skills.

The preview includes sample material from Week 1: Letters 1–4 & Chapters 1–4, where students begin examining Victor Frankenstein and Robert Walton, the pursuit of knowledge, scientific ambition, responsibility, isolation, and the consequences of unchecked curiosity.

THIS FREE PREVIEW INCLUDES:

  • Resource overview and explanation of what is included in the complete novel study
  • How-to-use guidance for teachers
  • Common Core State Standards alignment for Grades 9–12
  • Sample Week 1 Teacher Notes
  • Vocabulary in Action sample activity
  • Thinking About the Story sample
  • Character Focus: Victor Frankenstein
  • Theme Focus: Ambition and Responsibility

The sample activities show how students move beyond simple plot recall. They use context clues, examine character motivations and decisions, cite textual evidence, make predictions, and analyze how Shelley develops important themes.

The Character Focus sample asks students to analyze Victor’s traits, support their conclusions with evidence, consider how those traits influence his decisions, and predict future consequences.

The Theme Focus activity explores the relationship between ambition, knowledge, responsibility, and consequences, asking students to connect Shelley’s ideas to both the novel and larger questions about personal choices.

IMPORTANT: This is a FREE PREVIEW/SAMPLE of the resource. It is not the complete Frankenstein Novel Study.
