The Mystic Thorn
On Christmas day in the year 63, Joseph of Arimathea, an old man with a white beard, leads a band of twelve weary pilgrims from Palestine to the island valley of Glastonbury. Having escaped imprisonment after the crucifixion of Jesus, Joseph carries with him two sacred relics: the Holy Grail and the spear that pierced Christ's side. As they reach the island, they find themselves surrounded by native Britons who appear menacing and armed. While the other pilgrims express fear, Joseph remains calm and leads them in prayer, claiming the new land for God.
