This is a pattern to knit a tammy, beanie, and mittens using the stranded colourwork technique. This pattern is intended for experienced knitters familiar with colour or symbol charts and basic shaping. The charts are shown with colour and symbols on the same chart.


You may use the same colours or use the ‘light, medium, dark’ as a colour guide.

Size of mittens is determined by needles/gauge.

2 Ply Jumper Weight by, Jamieson & Smith; Fingering; 100% Shetland; 125yds (115m)/25g

approximate yarn amounts:

Hat - to knit tammy or beanie

colour A (FC58 - dark) - 85yds / 78m

53yds / 48m each of colours B (65 - dark), C (122 - dark), and E (FC67 - medium)

31yds / 28m each of colours F (1284 - light), D (FC38 - medium), G (90 - light), H (FC62 - light), and I (FC12 - dark)

Mittens - to knit one pair largest size

colour A (dark) - 90yds / 82m

53yds / 48m each of colours B (65 - dark), C (122 - dark), D (FC38 - medium), E (FC67 - medium), F (1284 - light), H (FC62 - light), and I (FC12 - dark)

30yds / 28m of colour G (90 - light)

Hat - one size fits many; 21-25 in/53cm-63.5 cm head

Mittens - finished palm circumference - 7.5 (8, 8.5, 9) in / 19 (20, 21.5, 23) cm
