Gabriel Mulligan is a hard-nosed P.I. with a smirk on his face and ice in his veins.

Or at least that's what he tells himself.

Until a crimson-eyed woman walks into his life with a killer case and challenges everything he believes to be true.

Six men have been found naked and frozen on the docks of Wishrock Harbor, and a dark shadow lurks in the river ready for its next meal.

As the details of the case keep changing, the line between good and evil start to blur.

With the help of his best friend and some unlikely allies, Gabe will need to sift through the lies to determine who the true monsters are — even if one of those monsters is himself.

Step into the Invisible Entente series and lose yourself in a supernatural mystery of friendship, longing, and revenge.

Great on its own but richer with the previous books

When I read "The Invisible Entente" I knew the future was full of great things from this author. It is a prequel novella that introduces us to a varied cast of characters, each with their own personalities and quirks and rich backstories. "Death at Peony House" was the first one in the Dark Descendants (DD) series, and "Song of Wishrock Harbor" is the second one.

Even though these books are technically in a series, each one can be read on its own without prior knowledge of events happening in the novella or in DD #1. I will say, however, that your experience will be richer if you do read the previous books. There are hints of things in the past that you'll be aware of if you do.

Before even starting "Song of Wishrock Harbor" I was entranced. The name is so lyrical, and the cover is beautiful. The inside was just as good with supernatural characters of different types we've met before and new ones (none of which have the same type of abilities), plus a new non-supernatural character whose computer abilities border on magical. The story is complex with lots of twists and turns - Who can we trust? Who is telling the truth? Can Gabe keep from turning someone to stone? Will he eat something other than pizza?

Even though I received a complimentary ARC from the author for review consideration, I can't speak highly enough of this book and the other books in the series. Just as there are hints of the past, there are also hints of the future, and I can't wait to find out what's going to happen in New Haven next!
