Check in to the Garden Hotel!

You wouldn't think that you'd find a succubus relatable as the main character of a book. I mean, she has sex with men and feeds off them, killing them in the process. How many of us can relate to that? Don't look at me like that - I walked away from all my exes with their souls intact, even though some of them deserved a different fate.

I've read all of the books in this series so far, so I knew what I was getting into with Allegra from the prequel novella, "The Invisible Entente." If you haven't read that yet, I do recommend it along with "Death at Peony House" and "Song of Wishrock Harbor". Each of the books in the series can be read on their own, but you'll have a much richer experience knowing what has come before.

Now, where was I? Oh, yes, relatable. I will admit it took a little bit of time to get there, as the first pages were filled with a conquest that she refers to as "breakfast." Immediately I felt like I was "seeing" through Allegra's eyes, and - should I admit it? - I felt sensual and wanted just as she was - sensual and wanted. I've always wondered what it would be like to be so beautiful every eye is drawn to me and to be able to be as bitchy as I wanted without repercussion. I got to have those experiences through Allegra.

As the story progressed, I found that she's plagued with fears and insecurities just like we all are, and she became a very deep and (like I said) very relatable character. I believe she may be my favorite of those I've met so far.

I won't go into the plot to not give away any spoilers, but the book is full of the twists, turns, suspense, and surprises that I've come to expect from this author. Just when you think you know what's going on everything gets turned upside down.

What will happen next in New Haven? Something big is coming, and I can't wait to find out what it is!

I received a complimentary ARC from the author for review consideration. It may seem that she holds a spell over me, but I swear all these opinions are my own. As far as I know, that is...
